The Literature Club (sometimes referred to as the literature club) is a school group prominently featured in Doki Doki Literature Club! and other media related to it. The group comprises four girls: Sayori, Natsuki, Yuri, and Monika, the leader. In its debut appearance, Monika has the role of Club President while Sayori (in Act 1) and Yuri (in Act 2) are Vice Presidents (or vice president). The role of Club President makes one self-aware in a video game, hence Monika's self-aware personality. After the player deletes Monika, Sayori replaces her as the new Club President, causing her to become self-aware.

History

Doki Doki Literature Club!

In Doki Doki Literature Club!, the protagonist visits the Literature Club because Sayori says she told the club she is bringing in a new member. He then meets Yuri, Natsuki, and Monika. Monika then assigns the club to write poems to compare their different styles. In Act 2, the protagonist is introduced to the club by Monika after she deletes Sayori. After Yuri's suicide, Monika deletes her and Natsuki and resets the game for room to take place in the same classroom but with a cosmic background. After the player deletes Monika, she restores the .chr files of the deleted girls.

In Act 4, Sayori is now the Club President, which makes her self-aware. She attempts to bring the player back to the same area Monika was before the latter stops her and ends the game.

Doki Doki Literature Club Plus!

The Literature Club returns for the DDLC portion of the remake, Doki Doki Literature Club Plus!, fulfilling the same role as it did in the original game. The Side Stories has the Literature Club in an alternate storyline where the protagonist does not exist, and Monika is not self-aware.
